Hangzhou International Centre on Small Hydropower

Co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Industry Development Organization(UNIDO) and Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) of People’s Republic of China, the International Network on Small Hydro Power (IN-SHP) is a non-profit international coordinating and promoting organization for the global development of small hydro power, which is established on the basis of voluntary participation of regional, sub-regional and national focal points, relevant institutions, utilities and enterprises and with social benefit as its major objective.

IN-SHP aims at the promotion of global SHP development through triangular technical and economical co-operation among developing countries, developed countries and international organizations, in order to supply rural areas in developing countries with environmentally sound, affordable and adequate energy, which will lead to:
• poverty alleviation
• economic development
• the increase of employment opportunities
• the improvement of local living standards
• the improvement in the ecological environment

HOBUKA Ltd is a local consulting and technology development firm. The company activities interconnect three departments which are Energy, ICT and Sustainable Development.

Hydro Lab Pvt. Limited

Hydro Lab Private Limited was established in Kathmandu, Nepal in January 1999 with a funding support from the Norwegian Government (NORAD), in close co-operation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) in Trondheim, Norway. It is the objective of Hydro Lab to assist in the achievement of national development goals by providing an effective base of research and development, training, design and consultancy services in the field of Hydraulics Engineering. Hydro Lab Pvt. Ltd. is the only research organisation providing specialised hydraulic model studies within water resources engineering in Nepal.

The laboratory will be a research centre for planning and conducting hydraulic scale model studies related to complex Himalayan rivers and reservoirs and solving the problems otherwise unsolved by the common hydraulic theory and practice. The result of the study is to plan and to focus on optimizing the design of hydraulic structures and save cost on design and operation of river engineering projects.

International Center on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) is a public and non-profit institution directly under auspices of United Nations Industrial and Development Organization (UNIDO), China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce, as well as, ICSHP is headquarters of International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP), which is an international organization with more than about 400 members from 80 countries.

Independent Power Producers (IPPAN)

Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) was established in the year 2001 with the intention of encouraging the private sector to work in the area of hydropower in Nepal. It is a non-profit, non-government autonomous organization.

One of its main purposes is to act as a link between the private sector and government organizations involved in developing hydropower in the country so that Nepalese citizens can get the maximum benefit from the development effort.

Besides this, the organization also helps exchange technology, expertise, knowledge, financial and management information among the independent power producers in the country.

IPPAN is primarily a membership organization. The General Assembly comprises both institutional and individual members. The General Assembly elects the Board of Directors, which then formulates the plans and policies of the organization.

The International Association for small hydro was formed in the year September 1994 with headquarters at New Delhi. The Association will draw its member from all countries who are associated with eminent engineers in the field of small hydro . The objective of the Association are : Promotion of research, planning, consulting on construction, operation of small hydro including Mini and Micro. To provide a suitable forum to the specialists planners, designers, manufacturer and users for interaction on latest development of SHP sector through organising workshops and international conferences To provide an information service by publishing course material/manuals/conference proceeding/half yearly news letters etc.
