Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited

Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) is a power generation company in Malawi licensed by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority to generate and sell electricity to the single buyer. EGENCO was incorporated on 9th September 2016 as a public company under the Companies Act (Cap 46:03) and started its full operations on 1st January 2017. The Company is wholly owned by the Government of Malawi. EGENCO is a market leader in electricity generation in Malawi boasting of over 80 percent of the total energy injected into the national grid. The Company has a total installed generation capacity of 441.55 MW connected to the national grid while 3.124 MW is off-grid.

Energy Private Developer’s association is a registered professional association in Rwanda, regrouping private companies operating in energy sector. It is one of the 5 associations composing the Chamber of Industry under the Private Sector Federation (PSF) of Rwanda. EPD focuses on advocacy of its members, encouraging collaboration and partnership for development of energy sector in Rwanda. The statutes and articles of Energy Private Developers’ association have been published in Official Gazette of Rwanda, No 41 of 13/10/2014.

Frontier Energy

Frontier Energy is a leading investor in the African renewable energy market. With a hands-on and integrated approach to investing in the development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects and are developing, constructing and operating more than 45 renewable energy projects in Africa within hydro, geothermal, wind and solar PV with a total capacity of more than 750 MW and total project costs of more than USD 1.8 billion.

Frontier Energy’s first fund from 2011 has a capital of EUR 60 million and is fully committed to 6 investments in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Our successor fund, Frontier Energy II, from March 2017 has a capital of USD 227 million and has so far invested in 14 projects in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Glommens and Laagens Water Management Association (GLB)

The main purpose of the association is to develop and operate storage reservoirs and regulation systems to level the natural flow of water in the rivers so that the production of electricity can be better adapted to the actual demand. GLB is responsible for 26 reservoirs and watercourse diversions with a combined storage capacity of an approximate 3,500 million m3, equivalent to 16 % of the runoff from the catchments’ area during an average year. The licences for the 26 regulating dams and watercourse diversions involved are held by GLB on behalf of the members who are private and publicly owned hydropower companies.

GLB consists of, and is owned by, a total of 21 industrial enterprises and hydroelectric power companies who have 47 power stations within the catchments’ area. The annual production by the member hydroelectric power stations will in a good year exceed 10,000 million kilowatt-hours (10 Terawatt-hours), approximately 9 % of Norway’s total electricity production.
