Guanacaste, Central America’s largest renewable energy cluster, generates over 40% of Costa Rica’s electricity. This region is a beacon of sustainable development, where public and private stakeholders collaborate to manage water resources for human consumption, agriculture, and more.
• Governance structure for the integrated management of water resources and the role of civil society.
• Factors skills to promote the development of new generation sources in the region, such as the role of electricity transmission systems.
• The role of the reservoir in a climate strategy to address climate vulnerability. Rehabilitation and Modernization of HP assets.
• Water nexus and other sources of generation.
• Cascade hydropower development and multiple uses of the reservoir.
• Environmental and social monitoring for responsible and sustainable use of water.
• Alert and social management systems; Communications with communities and national authorities on risk management.
• Guided technical tour of the ARDESA hydropower complex, wind farms, solar plant and Las Pailas geothermal field.
